FRACTURE VERTICALE [9 records]

Record 1 2021-07-14

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oil Drilling
CONT

When sufficient hydraulic pressure is applied through the wellbore against a particular formation, the formation rock fractures along the plane perpendicular to the direction of the least principal stress. A horizontal fracture will be created if fracture pressure is greater than overburden pressure; a vertical fracture will occur if overburden pressure is greater.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Bones and Joints
DEF

A double vertical fracture of the pelvis, with one fracture line extending anterior to the acetabulum, usually through the pubic rami, and the other posterior to the acetabulum, usually through the ilium or the sacrum. Separation of the sacroiliac joint may occur in place of the posterior fracture.

Domaine(s)

DEF

Record 4 2010-02-26

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mountain Sports
CONT

Rock has two distinct features, faces and cracks. Faces are unbroken slabs of rock. Cracks split these slabs in two.

CONT

Cracks vary in size from seams to chimneys. They are classified by the techniques used to climb them. Seams are so small you can't get your fingers in them; tips take only your fingertips; next is finger cracks, off-fingers, hand cracks, off-hands, fist cracks, off-widths, squeeze chimneys, and chimneys.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sports de montagne
DEF

Record 8 1992-09-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radiography (Medicine)
  • Musculoskeletal System
DEF

Comminuted vertebral body fracture with a displaced anterior fragment. It is caused by an axial compression force with flexion of the mid-cervical spine. The same term sometimes is applied to an extension injury. It implies possible instability with posterior displacement of the vertebral body producing spinal cord damage.

OBS

A few authors have considered the flexion teardrop fracture and the burst fracture (caused by vertical compression) to be the same entity; however, the majority have recognized that their mechanisms of injury and pathophysiology differ, that their roentgen appearances, while sometimes similar, are distinctive, and that there is a significant difference between their neurologic complications.

DEF
