FRAGMENTATION CHROMOSOMES [3 records]

Record 1 2013-11-15

English

Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
DEF

The smallest unit (corresponding to a single DNA nucleotide) which is exchangeable but not divisible by intragenic recombination between homologous linkage structures (chromosomes).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Cytology
  • Biotechnology
CONT

[Apoptosis is a] naturally occurring, non-pathologic form of cell death distinct from necrosis, characterized by condensation of the nucleus and cytoplasm, extensive bleeding, and breaking up of the cell into a number of membrane-bound fragments (apoptotic bodies), which are then either phagocytosed by neighboring cells or shed into a lumen.

Domaine(s)
  • Cytologie
  • Biotechnologie
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Cytology
CONT

An alternative approach to the problem of establishing gene linkage in somatic cells is to induce random chromosome fragmentation by irradiating cells before fusing them with a recipient cell, and then following in the hybrid the retention of two genes mapped to the same chromosome.
