Tandem mass spectrometry ... is a process by which gas-phase ions of an analyte resulting from an initial ionization undergo separation according to their m/z [mass-to-charge ratio] values, using a first iteration of mass spectrometry. Ions of individual m/z values (precursor ions) are then subjected to collisional activation so that these precursor ions will fragment, producing product ions of different m/z values. These product ions then are separated and detected by a second iteration of mass spectrometry; thus the name tandem mass spectrometry or MS/MS. 3, record 4, English, - tandem%20mass%20spectrometry

Plasticosis is a type of fibrotic disease. These conditions are caused by excessive amounts of scarring when an area of the body is repeatedly inflamed and prevents the wound from healing normally. Generally, temporary scar tissue forms after an injury and helps to strengthen the repair. But when inflammation happens again and again, excessive amounts of scar tissue can form which reduces the flexibility of the tissues and causes their structure to change. In the case of plasticosis, the irritation is caused by shards of plastic digging into the stomach tissue. 2, record 6, English, - plasticosis

2, record 6, French, - plasticose

Mutator-like transposable elements (MULEs) are a superfamily of DNA [deoxyribonucleic acid] elements found in many eukaryotes and are especially common in plants ... Plant genomes carry large numbers of chimeric MULEs called Pack-MULEs, which contain fragments of genes, suggesting that these elements might constitute an important mechanism of gene evolution in plants ... There is also evidence that gene fragments inside Pack-MULEs are transcribed, and it is possible that these encode functional proteins and/or functional transcripts, for example, antisense transcripts that could influence the expression of their parental genes in the genome. 2, record 35, English, - Pack%2Dmutator%2Dlike%20transposable%20element

A separate method called serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE) was described ... In this method, short sequence tags were isolated from the tissue, concatenated and cloned. The sequence of the clones allowed development of a profile for the gene expression. Quantitative data regarding the prevalence of an expressed gene was derived from the frequency that a given sequence was found. Furthermore, new transcripts which corresponded to novel tags could be identified. Therefore, SAGE should allow defining quantitative assessment of gene expression in tissues under normal and abnormal conditions. 4, record 62, English, - serial%20analysis%20of%20gene%20expression

Because of the way the synthesis is manipulated each piece ends either with or just before a particular, identifiable nucleotide (A, G, T or C). 3, record 86, French, - laboratoire%2Dsur%2Dpuce
Record number: 86, Textual support number: 2 CONT

7, record 91, French, - spectrom%C3%A9trie%20de%20masse%20d%26rsquo%3Bions%20secondaires

A basic principle in self assembly is selective stickiness: if two molecular parts have complementary shapes and charge patterns, one part has a hollow where the other part has a bump, and one part has a positive charge where the other part has a negative charge, then they will tend to stick together in one particular way. By shaking these parts around, something which thermal noise does for us quite naturally if the parts are floating in solution, the parts will eventually, purely by chance, be brought together in just the right way and combine into a bigger part. This bigger part can combine in the same way with other parts, letting us gradually build a complex whole from molecular pieces by stirring them together and shaking. 3, record 95, English, - self%2Dassembly

Historically, the idea of supramolecular interactions dates back to the famous metaphor of Emil Fischer (1894), who described a selective interaction of molecules as the lock and key principle. Today, supramolecular chemistry has by far surpassed its original focus. Molecular self-assemblies combine several features of covalent and non-covalent synthesis to make large and structurally well-defined assemblies of atoms. Single van der Waals interactions and hydrogen bonds are weak relative to typical covalent bonds and comparable to thermal energies. Therefore, many of these weak non-covalent interactions are necessary in order to achieve molecular stability in self-assembled aggregates. In biology, there are many complex systems of nanoscale structures such as proteins and viruses which are formed by self-assembly. Living systems sum up many weak interactions between chemical entities to make large ones. 1, record 95, English, - self%2Dassembly
