"Stringing" (i.e. the set of strings as a unit) is not to be confused with the process of putting strings onto a racquet frame, also called "stringing". Often in English, the plural (strings) is sufficient to render the French "cordage" (collective term).

tamis : terme polysémique dans le monde du tennis, d’où trois équivalences possibles en anglais, selon le contexte : 1) string bed; 2) string pattern; 3) stringing [procédé]. On retrouve aussi souvent dans les brochures de publicité le terme «tamis», en forme absolue, ce qui veut dire «surface de tamis» ou «grosseur de tamis» (racquet size).

(The terms "shot" and "stroke", being more neutral, need not imply any added spin whatsoever.) However in both French and Spanish, "drive" is also used often as a synonym for "forehand" (shot/stroke).

Ce dernier terme signifie en réalité «un coup puissant renvoyant la balle avec force en lui faisant raser le filet» et ne doit pas être utilisé comme synonyme de coup droit, tout coup frappé avec la paume de la main faisant face au mouvement de la balle, que le coup soit exécuté de la droite ou de la gauche.

À éviter l’anglicisme générique «drive». Ce terme peut être aussi synonyme de «coup d’attaque». À propos, il existe divers types de coups droits : à plat, lifté (généralement à vocation offensive), coupé (souvent coup d’attente).

"Shot" implies a quick, sharp movement because one is focusing on the end result, not the series of sequences leading up to it. One speaks of "classical strokes" rather than "classical shot". A "blow" on the other hand is rather a blunt, general term similar in meaning to "shot". Although many would like to maintain these nuances in English, "shot" and "stroke" can often be used synonymously. "Blow" is used only rarely. Note, however that although there are two possible equivalents ("coup" and "frappe") in French, neither are semantically identical to the English offerings.
