WWII definition confirmed in CFP 152, the Canadian Forces Seamanship Manual. Corresponded to US Navy "destroyer escort" of the day. After WWII, Can. Navy adopted the term destroyer escort for newly-constructed vessels. Nowadays, the Canadian, U.S. and British navies all use the term frigate to mean a warship slightly smaller than and generally not as powerfully armed as a destroyer (although there is some overlap). With the possible exception of the DDH-280 class ships (classified as destroyers by Jane's Fighting Ships), all of Canada's present day "destroyers" are actually frigates, the word destroyer being used as a short form of "destroyer escort", which was their original classification. 5, record 34, English, - frigate

During a patrol of international waters off Pakistan, HMCS Toronto spotted a suspicious small wooden dhow (a local type of sailing vessel) with a speedboat in tow. As the Canadian frigate approached, two unidentified men immediately jumped into the speedboat, leaving the dhow abandoned with her engines running. This situation constituted a navigation hazard, and international maritime law permitted HMCS Toronto to board the abandoned vessel. Aboard the dhow, the boarding party dispatched from HMCS Toronto discovered about ninety 23-kg bags containing plastic packages of drugs stamped with the phrase "Freedom of Afghanistan." 1, record 37, English, - boarding%20party

All ships compatible with LAMPS MkIII will be fitted with a helicopter Recovery Assist, Secure and Traverse (RAST) system on their decks, designed to allow the 9,900 kg Seahawk to be handled and moved automatically. On landing, the SH-60B is assisted by means of hand-down cable into a trap, the jaws of which close, lock and secure the helicopter on deck. The trap, which is on tracks, then moves into the hangar taking the helicopter with it. During sea trials on the USS Mclnerney (FFG-8), the Seahawk was able to operate day and night in high sea states, with the assistance of RAST. 1, record 45, English, - recovery%20assist%2C%20secure%20and%20traverse%20system
