The frequency at which a sound wave incident upon a surface has a projected wavelength equal to the length of the bending wave excited in the surface material. The effect of this "trace matching" is a marked reduction in the sound transmission loss in the frequency region in which this occurs. The frequency is a function of the angle at which the sound impinges on the surface, the surface weight, and bending stiffness of the surface. 2, record 1, English, - coincidence%20frequency

2, record 1, French, - fr%C3%A9quence%20de%20co%C3%AFncidence

Coincidence effect. When a plane wave strikes a thin partition at an angle, there are alternating high and low pressure zones along the partition that cause it to flex sinusoidally. This flexural wave propagates along the surface of the wall. At some frequency, there is a kind of resonance and the wall becomes transparent to the wave. This causes a marked decrease in the transmission loss over what is expected from the mass law; it can be 10-15 dB. 1, record 2, English, - coincidence%20effect

2, record 2, French, - effet%20de%20co%C3%AFncidence
