Lorsque la pale est déformée en battement, l'effort centrifuge génère un moment de torsion qui est suffisant, en raison de la faible rigidité en torsion, pour provoquer une augmentation significative de l'angle d’incidence, pouvant amener le décrochage de la pale. Ce type d’oscillation peut se rencontrer par exemple dans le cas de rupture de la commande de pas d’une machine à pas variable dont les pales sont centrées arrière.
