A warm occluded front occurs when a cool front overtakes a warm front overlying a cold front. The primary difference is the location of the upper level front. The cold front is ahead of the surface occluded front. In this case the weather is similar to a warm front. 2, record 23, French, - front%20occlus%20chaud

The squall line thunderstorm is a solid or broken line of thunderstorms that form ahead of a large scale boundary such as a cold front. Although a squall line thunderstorm can produce a tornado, it is most likely to produce strong straight-line winds, downbursts, and large hail. Winds associated with a squall line can easily exceed 100 mph and give the appearance (and sound) a tornado has struck. 4, record 24, English, - squall%20line

» 6, record 24, French, - ligne%20de%20grains

Prefrontal (warm front) fogs occur in stable continental polar (cP) air masses when precipitating warm air overrides the colder air. The rain raises the dewpoint in the cP air mass sufficiently for fog formation. Generally, the wind speeds are light, and the area most conducive to the formation of this type of fog is one between a nearby secondary low and the primary low-pressure center. The northeastern area of the United States is probably the most prevalent region for this type of fog. Depressions can be shown to follow a life cycle - from Embryo through Maturity to Decay. The embryo depression begins as a wave on the Polar Front. The collision between air masses forces the warmer air to rise - the rotation of the earth imparts a spiral movement to the rising air. The upward movement results in the creation of a Low pressure region on the earth's surface.

The leading edge of a gust front (or downburst) often creates an area of convergence which can lead to future thunderstorm growth; close monitoring of visible gust fronts becomes very important in forecsting areas of future storm development. Gust fronts from a line of cells, such as a squall line, can form an elongated area of divergence and convergence. 1, record 44, French, - vents%20rectilignes

The common macroburst is ... known as a gust front and is the leading edge of an evaporatively cooled downdraft ... which pushes outward at the surface as a low level dome of cold air. Strong gusty winds develop behind the leading edge of the cold outflow, which eventually moves out ahead of the parent cloud. This phenomenon is observed in all storms when the downdraft is relatively intense, but is especially violent, and sometimes destructive, when storms are organized in a line (squall line) or exhibit supercell qualities. Some of these destructive gust fronts actually generate funnel clouds and tornadoes. Tornadoes of this type are referred to as gust front tornadoes or gustnadoes. 1, record 45, English, - gust%20front%20tornado

4, record 45, French, - tornade%20de%20front%20de%20rafales

The machines operate on a rail track and, swivelling on the carriage, can sweep across the width of the heading.
