Record number: 14, Textual support number: 2 OBS

Nuisance particulates is a term used by the ACGIH to describe airborne materials (solids and liquids) which have little harmful effect on the lungs and do not produce significant disease or harmful effects when exposures are kept under reasonable control. Nuisance particulates may also be called nuisance dusts. High levels of nuisance particulates in the air may reduce visibility and can get into the eyes, ears and nose. Removal of this material by washing or rubbing may cause irritation. 1, record 16, English, - nuisance%20dusts

What happens in rice milling? When rice arrives at the mill, it is ushered through a series of sorting machines, separating the kernels, encased in an inedible hull or husk, from any debris. The rice is then sent on its way through the multifaceted processing journey. The rough rice passes through "sheller" machines that remove the hull. What remains is brown rice, with the bran layers still surrounding the kernel. The grains of brown rice are milled by machines that rub the grains together under pressure. This abrasion removes the bran layer, revealing white or "polished" rice. 2, record 19, English, - rice%20milling

Timken lubricant test. The Timken test determines the load at which a film of lubricant will fail and cause scoring. The test consists of a revolving test cup (race) that rubs on a stationary block. Speeds are infinitely variable, but usually run at a race speed of 800 rpm. Load is applied through a lever arrangement, at the end of which the necessary weights are gradually added automatically at a rate of 2.3 lb/sec. Refined Timken test machines, capable of infinitely variable loading from 0 to 1000 lb, measure friction, wear, and frictional temperature. Failure of lubricant is indicated by scoring of the test block. Tests of oils, greases, compounds, and solid lubricants can be made.

2, record 25, French, - m%C3%A9lange%20de%20p%C3%A2tes

Rubbing a concrete surface is done with a stone on a wetted and preferably green surface. This abrasion in the presence of moisture works up a thin mortar which fills in surface irregularities and tends to produce a uniform mat finish. The greener the concrete, the stronger and better bonded this skin will be. The rubbed surface must be cured. Refined Timken test machines, capable of infinitely variable loading from 0 t 1000 lb, measure friction, wear, and frictional temperature. Failure of lubricant is indicated by scoring of the test block. Tests of oils, greases, compounds, and solid lubricants can be made. 1, record 27, English, - Timken%20test%20machine
