Native to South China, Lychee is an attractive glossy leafed evergreen tree growing 25 to 40 feet. The tree grows compactly with a nice round top and spreading branches. It is related to the Goldenrain tree and the akee fruit tree. Lychee develops small green-white flowers which grow in panicles close to 12 inches long in June or July in South Florida. These panicles then produce very tasty edible 'nuts' borne in large, red clusters. 1, record 5, English, - lychee

There are also many African fruits and vegetables, cultivated or collected from the wild, that are little known outside Africa; for example: a tropical fruit-bearing tree called "African Plum" or "Bush-butter" (Dacryodes edulis) by English speakers ("Safou" and dozens of different names in African languages) -- the fruit is the size of a golf ball, has a tough purplish skin, and a layer of bitter greenish fruit surrounding a large seed -- boiling it for a minute makes the fruit tender enough to eat. 3, record 6, English, - African%20plum

1, record 26, French, - piment%20de%20la%20Jama%C3%AFque

In tests of six varieties of apples on the EM IX and the EM II root-stocks in West Virginia, there was no scion-rooting found on EM II. There was some on EM IX. In Canada, trees on EM I scion-rooted more freely than those on the French Crab seedlings, EM II and EM XVI. Vigorous, vegetative trees have been found less prone to scion-rooting, regardless of rootstock. 1, record 27, English, - scion%2Droot

1, record 27, French, - affranchir
