Motion planning requires exploring the configuration space of a robot or agent in order to find a sequence of feasible actions that maneuver the robot or agent around obstacles to a goal. However, not all motion plans are equal. In optimal motion planning, the objective is to find the best solution that optimizes relevant criteria, such as a path of minimum length, greatest clearance from obstacles, or minimum control effort.
