GABBRO FELDSPATHOIDES [3 records]

Record 1 2005-07-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Petrography
DEF

An alkali gabbro primarily composed of plagioclase, hornblende, biotite, and titanaugite, with lesser amounts of alkali feldspar and nepheline.

OBS

Its name is derived from Essex County, Massachusetts, from where it was originally defined by Sears in 1891 ...

DEF

Record 2 1999-09-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Mineralogy
  • Petrography
CONT

Alkalic gabbros are a rather rare group of rocks. They occur in complex hypabyssal associations such as differentiated sills or volcanic complexes and grade into alkalic diorites and monzonite on the one hand, ultramafic rocks on the other hand.

CONT

Hypabyssal and plutonic rocks of the Alkali Gabbro Clan are particularly variable in coarseness, texture, and mineral content.

  • Pétrographie
CONT

Gabbros alcalins.

Record 3 1978-04-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Geology
OBS

Relatively dark rocks characterized by the coexistence of plagioclase (andesine or labradorite), large amounts of nepheline, and a ferromagnesian mineral (augite or litanaugite, olivine, barkevikitic hornblende).

OBS

"Essexites and Theralites" (...), like the malignites, also are feldspathoidal gabbros of widely varied composition and texture.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Géologie
OBS
