Les appareils respiratoires isolants. Ces matériels isolent totalement le porteur du milieu ambiant. Ils peuvent donc être utilisés quelles que soient la nature et la concentration du gaz toxique ainsi que dans les atmosphères déficientes en oxygène. [On distingue] les appareils isolants non autonomes : ils fonctionnent avec un «fil à la patte». Le masque est alimenté par un simple tuyau relié à l'air libre(longueur 10 m maximum) ou branché sur une conduite d’air comprimé en moyenne pression [...] Les appareils respiratoires isolants autonomes : ce sont les seuls utilisés en incendie et sauvetage. Leur durée d’utilisation est limitée par la réserve d’air ou d’oxygène respirable contenue dans l'appareil.
