Ce «dissecteur», relié à un générateur de pression à gaz et à une poche de sérum physiologique-plus adapté au corps humain que l'eau-, a été inventé en 1994 par Bertrand Gonon, spécialiste en ingénierie médicale, avec l'aide d’André Dittmar, ingénieur au CNRS. L'appareil, baptisé Handy jet, délivre à ultra-haute pression(de 70. 105 à 120. 105 pascals, soit 120 fois la pression atmosphérique) du sérum physiologique stérile à 100%. C'est ce jet qui découpe les tissus. Le chirurgien peut en moduler la puissance selon les tissus rencontrés. Principal avantage sur l'instrument classique : le bistouri liquide permet une plus grande précision. Par exemple, dans le cas d’une intervention sur le foie, le bistouri permet de «chasser» les cellules hépatiques avant de sectionner la structure vasculaire ainsi dégagée. Un autre avantage : une petite pompe aspirante fixée sur l'appareil nettoie en permanence le champ opératoire, ce qui facilite l'intervention. Pour l'instant réservé à la chirurgie digestive, Handy Jet pourrait bientôt être adapté à la chirurgie gynécologique. 1, record 15, French, - bistouri%20liquide
