Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The War of the Grand Alliance, also known as the War of the League of Augsburg, the Nine Years War, the Orleans War, the War of the Palatinian Succession, and the War of the English Succession, was a major war fought in Europe and Colonial America from 1688 to 1697, between France and the League of Augsburg - which, by 1689, was known as the "Grand Alliance" when England and others joined. The war was fought to resit French expansionism along the Rhine, as well as, on the part of England, to safeguard the results of the Glorious Revolution from a possible French-backed restoration of James II of England. 1, record 1, English, - War%20of%20the%20Grand%20Alliance

1, record 1, French, - guerre%20de%20la%20ligue%20d%26rsquo%3BAugsbourg

Medieval European concept that a ruler, by proper declaration and with proper motives, might employ armed force outside his normal jurisdiction to defend rights, rectify wrongs, and punish crimes. He could, that is, take up arms for a just cause (which in practice, of course, was interpreted according to one's own lights). 1, record 6, English, - just%20war
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Throughout the development of bellum justum, significance was alternately placed on the "just motivation" and the "just execution" of warfare, which led to the division of the theory into two parts, namely, "jus ad bellum" and "jus in bello". 2, record 6, English, - just%20war
