GYRO STABILISATION [3 records]

Record 1 2012-07-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Launching and Space Maneuvering
  • Flight Instruments and Equipment (Aeroindustry)
  • Navigation Instruments
  • Aircraft Piloting and Navigation
CONT

Roll stability is further aided by a stabilizing gyro 144 mounted in the fuselage [of the airship] aft of the engines ..., which gyro is primarily operative before planning action is attained on take-off and after planning speed is lost at vertical peak before descent.

CONT

Scout is about as simple a rocket as you can get. The stages are all solid fuel, more or less the same as high-class model rocket engines. The guidance system is incredibly simple: a roll-yaw stabilization gyro, a pitch stabilization gyro, and a timer.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Spacecraft

CONT

Stabilisation. This stage will start automatically upon detection of the spacecraft separation from the launch vehicle. Spacecraft initialisation consists of switching on sensors: GPS, Magnetometer, Gyro and Sun Sensor. At launcher release, the spacecraft will autonomously recognise its angular rate, damp it and acquire controlled attitude. Upon success of de-spin and first sun acquisition, RADARSAT-2 will start to acquire a coarse stable 3-axes attitude. This process should take 2-3 orbits.

OBS

stabilisation: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 TerminologyApproval Group (RTAG).

CONT

Stabilisation.
