A device which reports the angle of an object with respect to gravity.

CONT

The gyroscopes are mounted on a platform that is stabilized by signals from the gyroscopes. The platform is aligned to the local vertical and to north prior to takeoff by using essentially the same technique as for a marine gyrocompass. The 84-min Schuler period is shortened by amplifying signals from tilt sensors or accelerometers on the platform to rapidly remove platform tilt and align to north.

[...] la plate-forme stabilisée est montée à la cardan. Elle est maintenue horizontale et alignée grâce à des gyro-détecteurs situés sur la plate-forme. Les gyro-détecteurs émettent des signaux d’erreur qui entraînent des servomoteurs placés entre les cardans. [...] Les gyro-détecteurs de la plate-forme sont des gyromètres mais, contrairement aux gyromètres utilisés dans l’indicateur de virage, ils ne sont pas reliés au cardan par un ressort pour provoquer la précession du gyroscope lorsqu’un virage est détecté. Dans le cas du gyromètre utilisé sur la plate-forme, c’est la précession du cadre qui déplace la barre en I par rapport à une barre en E, produisant ainsi un signal d’erreur.
