[In the] vibrating-beam rate gyros ... piezoelectric crystals on either side of a beam are alternately stressed at the beam's natural frequency, causing the beam to vibrate. Les gyromètres font appel aux microtechnologies. [...] Le marché des microgyromètres est principalement tiré par les applications automobiles (suspension active, déclenchement d’airbag en cas de tonneaux), qui requièrent une précision de 1°/s. La précision visée pour les applications aéronautiques ou de navigation est nettement supérieure : il faut pouvoir mesurer des vitesses de rotation de 0,001°/s. La structure, réalisée en SOI, utilise un concept de diapason constitué de deux masses vibrantes dans le plan du substrat.
