A true pitch propeller is one that makes use of the blade-element theory. Each element (section) of the blade travels at a different rate of speed, that is, the tip sections travel faster than the sections close to the hub. Si l'on veut avoir une hélice dont toutes les sections possèdent le même pas H, il suffit de réaliser la condition r tg[ alpha]=constante=k(où alpha correspond à l'angle de calage](...) L'hélice à pas constant ainsi définie n’ est plus utilisée à l'heure actuelle; en effet, la présence du fuseau moteur réduit la vitesse de l'air au voisinage du moyeu, ce qui se traduit par la nécessité de réduire le pas dans cette région afin d’obtenir un rendement meilleur.
