"Grande-Grave" is the spelling of the name of a historically inhabited place; it is also the specific in "Grande-Grave National Historic Site (Que.)", a national historic site managed by Parks Canada. The name of the first establishment, "Grande-Grave", was later spelled "Grande-Grève", but changed back to "Grande-Grave" on October 21, 1993, by a decision of the Commission de toponymie du Québec. If Parks Canada lists were adapted to follow these modifications, the administration of the Grande-Grave National Historic Site never changed the historic name on the site.

In Canada (with two exceptions as of December 31, 1995), the name of an inhabited place has only one form in English and French, which form is listed in the Gazetteer of the province or territory according to the Incorporation Act of the entity. This rule also applies for the historic designation of an inhabited place, even if the designation is not or no longer gazetteered.

«Grande-Grave» est la graphie du nom d’un lieu historiquement habité inscrit au Répertoire comme «lieu-dit»; c'est aussi le spécifique dans «lieu historique national de Grande-Grave(Qc) », un lieu historique national géré par Parcs Canada. Le nom du premier établissement de pêche, «Grande-Grave», a été écrit par la suite «Grande-Grève», mais est redevenu «Grande-Grave» le 21 octobre 1993 à la suite d’une décision de la Commission de toponymie du Québec. Si les listes de Parcs Canada se sont adaptées pour refléter ces modifications, l'administration du lieu historique national de Grande-Grave n’ a jamais modifié le nom original de l'entité sur les lieux-mêmes.
