Mouvement involontaire de nature non épileptique. Les mouvements choréiques, athétosiques, balliques, les dyskinésies, les tremblements, les dystonies en sont les variétés. Actuellement, ce terme n’est guère utilisé que pour désigner certains mouvements involontaires qui ne peuvent être étiquetés précisément car ils empruntent des éléments sémiologiques à plusieurs des variétés : on parle ainsi des hypercinésies déclenchées par les neuroleptiques, qui frappent la musculature bucco-faciale, celle du tronc, des membres, ou la marche.
