A hypermetabolic, myopathic syndrome, chemically or stress induced, that is manifested by an abrupt rise in core temperature, vigorous muscle contractions, metabolic and respiratory acidosis, and ventricular arrhythmias, usually when inducing anesthesia.

La susceptibilité HM est une myopathie génétiquement transmise sur le mode dominant non lié au sexe et quasiment sans expression clinique en dehors de la survenue de la crise. La crise peut être déclenchée par tous les agents volatils halogénés et la succinylcholine. Elle consiste en un état hypermétabolique primitivement musculaire, souvent accompagné de rigidité, et peut aboutir à la destruction généralisée du muscle squelettique et secondairement à la défaillance multiviscérale.
