High frequency hearing loss is a condition that occurs when the ear becomes unable to hear high-pitched sounds. According to the Hearing Rehab Center, "aging, noise exposure, and medical conditions are the three biggest causes of high frequency hearing loss, all of which damage the sensory cells in the inner ear."

Promediados los datos en las frecuencias 500, 1000 y 2000 Hz, se diferencian cuatro grados de pérdida auditiva: Audición normal. Umbral auditivo inferior a 20 dB [decíbeles]. Discapacidad auditiva ligera (DAL). Entre 20 y 40 dB. Discapacidad auditiva media (DAM). Entre 40 y 70 dB. Discapacidad auditiva severa (DAS). Entre 70 y 90 dB. Discapacidad auditiva profunda (DAP). Umbral por encima de los 90 dB. [...] Se habla de hipoacusia cuando se reduce la capacidad de una persona para percibir el sonido. La sordera se produce cuando el umbral auditivo se sitúa por encíma de los 90 dB e impide adquirir de forma natural el lenguaje, siendo necesario recurrir a una instrucción.
