L'expression «otherwise detained» est employée dans un arrêt de la Cour d’appel de l'Ontario(Re Bazouzi and the Queen, CCH DRS 1983 p 17-110, O.(1983) 3 C. C. C.(3d) 386(Ont., C. A. ] pour désigner ce que l'article 457(1) du Code criminel désigne par les mots «detained in custody in respect of any other matter». Cette expression a été reprise dans les ouvrages de doctrine et rendue en français par «détenu relativement à une autre affaire». On trouve aussi dans la version française du Code criminel l'expression «détention requise pour une autre affaire»(article 519(1) C. Cr. 1989).
