L'électrofloculation est utilisée pour piéger des espèces polluantes comme l'étain, le plomb, le zinc, le chrome, le phosphore, le cyanure, etc. La concentration en métaux lourds est ainsi couramment réduite de plusieurs centaines de milligrammes par litre à moins de 1 milligramme par litre.
