There are two different commercial wheat debranning systems, the Tkac (1992) procedure and the 'PeriTec' process, marketed by Satake Corporation (McGee 1995). In both processes the wheat bran layers are removed by successive passages through modified rice polishers. A short conditioning period (3 to 5 min) is used to ensure that water penetrates into the outer regions only of the seed coat. Abrasion is used first in the Satake process, followed by friction, as in rice polishing. In the Tkac system the outer layers are removed first by friction passages followed by abrasion passages. 4, record 17, English, - debranning%20of%20wheat

Hard wheat flours usually have much higher starch damage values than soft wheat flours. Starch granules in soft wheat endosperm are loosely bound in the kernel and easily released in milling; on the other hand, starch granules in hard wheat endosperm are firmly bound in a much stronger protein matrix and therefore more liable to damage when endosperm fragments are reduced during milling. 1, record 36, English, - hard%20wheat%20flour

Milling. For efficient extraction with water, malt must be milled. Early milling processes used stones driven manually or by water or animal power, but modern brewing uses mechanically driven roller mills. The design of the mill and the gap between the rolls are important in obtaining the correct reduction in size of the malt. In 1892, at Agriculture Canada's Central Experimental Farm in Ottawa, Dr. Charles Saunders made a selection of a cross of an early ripening Indian wheat, Hard Red Calcutta, with Red Fife. This selection was developed and licensed under the name Marquis. It was early maturing, produced high yields, and had the same excellent milling and baking qualities as Red Fife. Its quality became world renowned and was the single most important factor in establishing Canada's initial reputation as a producer of high quality wheat. Its performance was such that all inferior varieties were practically eliminated from production. 1, record 58, English, - early%20maturing%20wheat

This famous wheat, commonly known as Red Fife or Scotch Fife in North America, is called "red" because that is its colour when fully ripe and "Fife" after David Fife, the Ontario farmer who was the first to grow it in North America when he sowed it on his farm in 1842. The story of how it got there has taken on aspects of myth and legend. It takes place at various locations across two continents: one often needs to look ahead in time, then back, to understand how it happened.

3, record 61, Spanish, - molienda%20de%20caf%C3%A9

The flours produced at different stages in the milling process are known as "machine flours" and are named after the stage in the process where they are produced. Thus, flour from the third break passage is designated 3 BK flour. Flour from the first reduction passage (removed by the first middlings sifter) is designated 1 M flour, from the second middlings sifter, 2 M flour, and so on to the last passage which is called low grade (LG) flour. The reduction system also includes passages for treating the coarser, branny stocks known as second quality and first tailings; the flours produced at these stages are designated 2Q and 1T flours respectively. Some flows also include a second tailings passage (2T). 3, record 63, English, - reduction%20system
