It is useful to characterize three types of units: input, output, and hidden. Input units receive inputs from sources external to the system under study. These inputs may be either sensory input or input from other parts of the processing system in which the model is embedded. 2, record 1, English, - input%20unit

A competitive learning system consists of a set of hierarchically layered units in which each layer connects, via excitatory connections, with the layer immediately above it. The elements within a cluster at one level compete with one another to respond to the pattern appearing on the layer below. The more strongly any particular unit responds to an incoming stimulus, the more it shuts down the other members of its cluster. 1, record 3, English, - competitive%20learning%20system

1, record 3, French, - r%C3%A9seau%20%C3%A0%20apprentissage%20comp%C3%A9titif
