Il s’agit de roches dépourvues de quartz, constituées par un feldspath alcalin(albite, orthose ou perthite, etc.) et par de la "néphéline" ou de l'"analcime" ou, parfois, de la "sodalite" et de la "noséane". Leur structure est finement ou grossièrement grenue(pegmatites syénitiques), leur couleur est claire, grise ou verdâtre. On les trouve au Portugal, en Scandinavie, au Brésil, en Afrique du Sud-Ouest et aux États-Unis.
