Par extension, les noms des stades - Wimbledon, Roland-Garros, Flushing Meadow - sont donnés aux Championnats internationaux eux-mêmes. D’autres Championnats internationaux sont organisés dans de nombreux pays (p. ex. : Allemagne, Italie), d’autres encore sur courts couverts (Suède). 4, record 1, French, - championnat%20international

Notez les particularités d’usage suivantes : si le terme «open» fait partie du titre officiel, l'usage veut que l'on ne le traduise pas(mais on peut traduire le nom du pays ou de la ville), p. ex. : le «US Open», l'«Open d’Australie», l'«Open de Bruxelles». Notez que ces désignations n’ ont pas toujours des équivalents officiels en français. De plus, en ce qui concerne le «US Open», ce nom de tournoi est souvent qualifié pour des raisons de clarté : le «US Open de tennis», et ce, par rapport au «US Open»(de golf). Par contre, on voit aussi dans la presse d’expression française les «Internationaux de France» plutôt que l'«Open de France», question d’usage. Or, la presse française accepte, comme terme officieux, l'usage de «Internationaux» suivi du nom du pays en tant que variante stylistique de «Open» : les Internationaux d’Australie, de France, de Grande-Bretagne, des É.-U., etc. S’ il ne s’agit pas du seul tournoi dit «ouvert» du pays ou si on veut mettre l'accent sur la ville, il faut utiliser l'anglicisme «open», p. ex. : l'«Open de Paris»(à Bercy), ce qui n’ est pas du tout le même tournoi que les «Internationaux de France»(à Roland-Garros, aussi à Paris). Le terme «omnium» ne s’utilise guère. Exception : l'Omnium d’Allemagne, l'Omnium du Maurier(version officieuse : l'Omnium du Canada, anciennement appelé les «Internationaux du Canada», les «Internationaux Player's ltée»(pour les hommes) ou les «Internationaux Matinée ltée»(pour les femmes). 4, record 1, French, - championnat%20international

Le terme anglais «Open» signifie parfois les Internationaux d’un pays, parfois un tournoi ouvert à toute catégorie de joueurs, amateurs ou professionnels. On dit «le US Open» parce que «US» se prononçant à l’anglaise, l’article ne doit pas être élidé.
