2, record 6, French, - facteur%20de%20virulence

Record number: 21, Textual support number: 2 CONT
4, record 21, French, - sondage

Once again, the environmental groups appearing before the Committee were opposed to the two recommendations, claiming that they were in fact not necessary. The joint CELA/CIELAP submission to the Committee argued that the criticism that MMLERs are not "scientifically based" was simply out of place and did not reflect the nature of how the regulations were developed and administered. The regulations remain technically defensible since they are based on what is technologically feasible, and not what is required from an ecological point of view. In actual fact, the problem is not the existence of poor science, but rather that the MMLERs are not tough enough to protect local ecosystems.(19) The joint brief went on to note that as a general principle, the natural background levels of metals in waters and sediments are not germane to the notion of technology-based standards. 2, record 23, English, - technology%2Dbased%20standard

1, record 23, French, - norme%20fond%C3%A9e%20sur%20la%20technologie

Between the high and low tide marks lies a strip of shoreline that is regularly covered and uncovered by the advance and retreat of the tides. This meeting ground between land and sea is called the "intertidal." 14, record 29, English, - intertidal%20zone

To many geomorphologists, the term "foreshore" is considered synonymous with the intertidal zone. These definitions are compared with the legal definitions of the "foreshore" as exist in Britain under the three different property law regimes; English, Scottish and Udal law. The legal definitions and many of the geomorphological definitions are based on tidal data. The differences between the observed tides at a tide gauge and on a beach at a distance from the gauge are considered. It is concluded that the term "foreshore" has a very specific legal meaning in each property law regime, therefore the authors propose that the term "foreshore" should be used to relate to the legally defined area of the coast and, unless specifically referring to the foreshore, scientists should use the term "intertidal." 15, record 29, English, - intertidal%20zone

8, record 45, French, - radar%20%C3%A0%20synth%C3%A8se%20d%26rsquo%3Bouverture

Note carefully the distinction between the terms "registration" referring to a Torrens-type system that makes affirmative statements about titles and "recording", referring to the predominant American system ... Unfortunately, this terminology is not always followed: for example, in a few states conventional recording is called "registration" and the official whose duty is to maintain the recording system is called the "register of deeds" or some similar term. Record number: 55, Textual support number: 1 CONT

2, record 67, French, - extinction
Record number: 67, Textual support number: 2 OBS

2, record 80, French, - radar%20imageur%20%C3%A0%20synth%C3%A8se%20d%26rsquo%3Bouverture

Traditional methods for acquiring topographic data typically rely on aerial photogrammetry, where measurement of the terrain surface below forest canopy is difficult and error prone. The recent emergence of airborne P-band interferometric synthetic aperture radar (IFSAR), a high -resolution, microwave remote sensing technology, has the potential to provide significantly more accurate terrain models in forested areas. Low-frequency, P-band radar energy physically penetrates through the vegetation canopy and reflects from the underlying terrain surface, allowing for accurate measurement of the terrain surface elevation even in areas with dense forest cover. 3, record 88, English, - interferometric%20synthetic%20aperture%20radar

1, record 90, French, - dictionnariste

The vertical extent of clouds formed by thermal lifting is determined by the moisture content and stability of the lifted air.
