OSTEOINTEGRATION [2 records]

Record 1 2006-11-11

English

Subject field(s)
  • Morphology and General Physiology
  • Prostheses
  • Prosthetic Dentistry
DEF

The result of the chemical interactions (dissolution, degradation, ion precipitation, and bone formation) at the interface between bone and bioactive materials, which leads to the two being so tightly interconnected they can no longer be told apart.

OBS

Some researchers oppose "osteocoalescence" to the concept of "osteointegration," while others consider "osteocoalescence" to be one phase of "osteointegration."

OBS

osteocoalescence: Despite not being the most common of the four synonyms, this term should be the preferred term as it is formed the same way as other related terms such as "osteointegration", "osteoconduction", and "osteoinduction."

Key term(s)
  • osteo-coalescence
  • osseo coalescence
  • osteo coalescence

French

Domaine(s)
  • Morphologie et physiologie générale
  • Prothèses
  • Dentisterie prothétique
DEF

Key term(s)
  • ostéo-coalescence

English

Subject field(s)
  • Morphology and General Physiology
  • Prostheses
  • Prosthetic Dentistry
DEF

A direct structural and functional connection between ordered living bone and the surface of a load-carrying implant.

CONT

Although osteointegration was meant originally to describe a biologic fixation of the titanium dental implants, it is now used to describe the attachment of other materials used for dental and orthopedic applications as well.

OBS

"Functional ankylosis" is a term used only by those researchers that were particularly influenced by Schroeder's research.

Key term(s)
  • osseo-integration
  • osteo-integration

French

Domaine(s)
  • Morphologie et physiologie générale
  • Prothèses
  • Dentisterie prothétique
DEF

Contact direct entre un matériau implanté et un os vivant.

OBS

Le terme «ankylose fonctionnelle» est utilisé par quelques chercheurs fortement influencés par les travaux de Schroeder.

Key term(s)
  • osséo-intégration
