Regression of a corpus luteum. Two factors appear to be involved in luteolysis in most domestic animals; one being prostaglandin F2a and the other being follicular oestrogen synthesis. It has been suggested that PGF2a is the normal luteolytic compound, and that it is transferred from the non-gravid uterus to the ovary by some form of counter-current distribution between the uterine vein and ovarian artery. While the actual route for PGF2a transfer is in some doubt its physiological role is certain. 2, record 6, English, - luteolysis
Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 CONT
A number of procedures for inducing luteolysis in domestic animals have been used. These range from the squeezing out of an established corpus luteum by rectal palpation in cattle, to the use of oestrogens. Although these methods are used in cases of infertility, their use in routine synchronisation has not been widely advocated, prostaglandins being preferred. 2, record 6, English, - luteolysis

... ovaries normally grow cyst-like structures called follicles each month. Follicles produce the hormones estrogen and progesterone and release an egg when you ovulate ... Around the midpoint of [the] menstrual cycle, an egg bursts out of its follicle and begins its journey down the fallopian tube in search of sperm and fertilization. A follicular cyst begins when something goes wrong and the follicle doesn't rupture or release its egg. Instead it grows and turns into a cyst. 4, record 8, English, - follicular%20cyst%20of%20ovary

Mucinous tumors of the ovary are either benign or malignant. Grossly, they tend to produce large cystic masses often multiloculated, and filled with gelatinous fluid. Histologically, the tumors are lined by tall, columnar epithelium showing apical mucinous vacuolation. In cystadenocarcinoma, the papillary projections are more numerous, mural nodules are present, and epithelial cells show atypia and invade the capsule. Borderline tumors have similar atypia but are noninvasive. Malignant mucinous tumors can seed the peritoneal cavity with multiple implanted, filling it with mucinous secretions. 3, record 17, English, - mucinous%20cystadenocarcinoma
