OWL: Even though the natural initialism for "Web Ontology Language" is "WOL," the abbreviation "OWL" is used because it is an easily pronounced acronym that yields good logos, suggests wisdom and honours computer scientist William A. Martin’s One World Language knowledge representation project.

Lo que hace OWL es proporcionar un lenguaje para definir ontologías estructuradas que pueden ser utilizadas a través de diferentes sistemas. Las ontologías, que se encargan de definir los términos utilizados para describir y representar un área de conocimiento, son utilizadas por los usuarios, las bases de datos y las aplicaciones que necesitan compartir información específica, es decir, en un campo determinado como puede ser el de las finanzas, medicina, deporte, etc. Las ontologías incluyen definiciones de conceptos básicos en un campo determinado y la relación entre ellos.

lenguaje de ontologías web: “web” se escribe en minúscula cuando se emplea como adjetivo, como en “página web”. En cuanto al número, es frecuente el plural invariable (sitios web).

Owl magazine is a Canadian children's magazine aimed at the 9 to 13 year age group. It is published ten times per year. Since it was founded in 1976, its focus has shifted from science and nature to a more general variety of subjects. Related publications from OWL have included videos and books, published by former owner OWL Communications. OWL was purchased by French publisher Bayard Press in 1997.

FOAF es un archivo diseñado para describir a personas, documentos, procesos… y es la descripción detallada de ellos, uno de sus elementos más sugestivos. En la descripción de personas, por ejemplo, este archivo no dirige la atención especial a los atributos físicos de los individuos, sino más bien a los aspectos cualitativos de las relaciones de las personas que representan la red […]: a quién conoce la persona, de quién es amigo y de quién no, cuáles son sus proyectos actuales y cuáles los pasados, etcétera.

El proyecto FOAF pretende acercar la web semántica a las redes sociales. Los documentos FOAF (acrónimo de Friend of a Friend), son documentos escritos en sintaxis XML adoptando las convenciones del Resource Description Framework (RDF). Estos documentos nos sirven para describir, tanto la información personal de los usuarios de una red social, como las relaciones que puedan darse dentro de la misma.

Leur contenu était alors en grande partie constitué de traductions et d’adaptations des magazines canadiens-anglais Chickadee et Owl, publiés par le groupe Owl Communication. En 1997,... son rachat par Bayard Canada a changé la donne. Les Éditions Enfants Québec ont dès lors pris la relève en continuant de publier les deux titres, mais en les remaniant entièrement(elles détiennent la licence d’exploitation des marques de commerce Coulicou et Hibou, qui demeurent la propriété des Éditions Héritage).
