Le nom systématique oxanthrène (en anglais «oxanthrene») est recommandé depuis 1993 pour désigner le système hétérotricyclique constitué de deux cycles benzéniques ortho-condensés à la structure monocyclique 1,4-dihétéroatomique à six chaînons dans laquelle les deux hétéroatomes sont des atomes d’oxygène.
