OZOCERITE [12 records]

Record 1 2016-02-03

English

Subject field(s)
  • Black Products (Petroleum)
  • Mineralogy
DEF

A natural, waxy mixture of paraffinic hydrocarbons.

CONT

Ozocerite occurs in rocks found in Utah, Galicia, Australia, and in Romania near the Caspian Sea. The light yellow to dark brown mineral wax is used as a substitute for beeswax and carnauba wax in polishes, candles, printing inks, crayons, sealing waxes, phonograph records, and insulation. It is also used for leather polish, lithographic and printing inks, carbon paper, floor polishes, waxed paper, and textile sizing.

OBS

When purified by boiling and alkali treatments, ozocerite is called ceresin wax.

OBS

ozokerite: term standardized by ISO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Produits noirs (Pétrole)
  • Minéralogie
DEF

OBS

ozokérite : terme normalisé par l’ISO.

Spanish

Record 4 2007-03-27

English

Subject field(s)
  • Petroleum Asphalts
  • Solid Fossil Fuels
CONT

... ozocerite ... is a native paraffin.

CONT

Ozokerite or ozocerite ... is a naturally-occurring odoriferous mineral wax or paraffin found in many localities.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Bitumes
  • Combustibles fossiles solides
CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Solid Fossil Fuels
  • Chemical Elements and Compounds
CONT

Mineral and synthetic waxes.

OBS

mineral wax: This term is usually applied to wax mined from the earth as such, i.e. ozocerite, and also to its refined form ceresine. Strictly speaking the term may also be applied to any wax of mineral origin i.e. petroleum waxes, mountain wax, lignite wax, peat wax.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Combustibles fossiles solides
  • Éléments et composés chimiques
DEF

OBS

Record 6 2004-05-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Solvents and Petroleum Spirits
CONT

The "multi-stage counter-current decantation" process provides partial upgrading in the field. In this process, the extracted bitumen is blended with a paraffinic solvent which promotes the precipitation of asphaltenes, and thereby removes most of the carbon-laden or coke-producing components in the mixture.

OBS

paraffinic: of, relating to, or characterized by paraffin hydrocarbons or paraffin wax.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Solvants et essences spéciales (Pétrole)
CONT
