The second book of the set of works by the CIDECT [Committee International for the Development and the Study of Tubular construction] under the general title "Construction with Hollow Steel Sections" is dedicated to phenomena of instability: buckling, distortion, spreading. Because of the shape of its section and the particularly favourable distribution of matter in the straight section, a hollow profile, of circular or rectangular shape, behaves distinctly better than an open profile section under the demands of compression. In remaining within the limits of the relation of the diameter or the width of side divided by the thickness of partition, given in this dimensioning guide, the local hollow profile distortion can be disregarded. On the other hand, the resistance to spreading is, in practice, not verified because hollow profiles possess a distinctly larger polar rigidity than open section profiles. 1, record 16, English, - open%20section%20profile

1, record 28, French, - petite%20soci%C3%A9t%C3%A9%20mini%C3%A8re

The molecules of commercial polymers do not have a single molecular mass; the molecular mass distribution follows statistical considerations. The distribution observed is dependent on the method of analysis used, which therefore needs to be stated. The ratio of the mass average molecular mass to the number-average molecular mass often is used as an indication of the distribution. The molecular-mass distribution may influence processing behaviour considerably. 1, record 33, English, - molecular%2Dmass%20distribution

3, record 45, French, - moment%20quadrupolaire

Non-ideal flow is caused by back-mixing, convection, or the creation of stagnant regions of fluid in the reactor, for instance by channelling. A cause of non-ideal flows in biochemical reactors. It is caused by excessive pressure drops, irregular packing of the support and the uneven application of the substrate to the column. Thus the fluid tends to find a preferential path through the column, usually down one side when friction of substrate with packing material is greater than that with the walls, or down the centre of the column when friction of substrate with the walls slows fluid flow. Therefore some of the particles in the column do not come into contact with the substrate, and contact with the rest of the particles is variable. 2, record 56, English, - channelling
Record number: 56, Textual support number: 1 CONT
In stirred reactors, better mixing can only be achieved by increasing the stirrer speed, by decreasing the viscosity of the substrate or the concentration of biocatalyst particles, or by baffling the reactor more efficiently. In packed-bed reactors, back-mixing, channelling and temperature gradients within the reactor are the most important causes of deviations from plug-flow behaviour and are expressed as the increase in reactor size needed to achieve the required productivity... Plug-flow is encouraged by the use of evensized, smooth, spherical, evenly packed support particles and by the absence of accumulated solids or gases in the column. 3, record 56, English, - channelling

1, record 63, French, - r%C3%A8gles%20de%20la%20distribution%20alimentaire

The nuclear electric quadrupole moment is a parameter which describes the effective shape of the ellipsoid of nuclear charge distribution. A non-zero quadrupole moment Q indicates that the charge distribution is not spherically symmetric. 1, record 64, French, - moment%20quadrupolaire%20%C3%A9lectrique

SEB is the toxin that most commonly causes classic food poisoning. It also has been demonstrated to cause a nonmenstrual toxic shock syndrome (TSS). SEB has been studied as a potential biological agent of war, since it easily can be aerosolized, is very stable, and can cause widespread systemic damage, multiorgan system failure, and even shock and death when inhaled at very high dosages. However, SEB is classified as an incapacitating agent because, in most cases, aerosol exposure results not in death, but in a temporary though profoundly incapacitating illness lasting as long as 2 weeks. 1, record 76, English, - staphylococcal%20enterotoxin%20B

One frequently employed technique by which benefits are accorded under treaties to nationals is the "most-favoured nation" clause. A bilateral treaty containing such a clause confers upon the nationals of each contracting party treatment within the territory of the other as favourable as that given to the nationals of the "most-favoured" foreign state. An agreement to accord "national" treatment confers an even more favourable status, but this is more rare. A "broker" is someone who represents a manufacturer or marketer (his "client") to prospective customers, and receives a commission, usually monthly, in recompense. Brokers do not purchase product. They do not warehouse merchandise. They are not resellers. They are representatives. In fact, their role is not too far afield from the role that exists between a real estate "broker" and his client. A broker takes the place of a clients sales representative without incurring a fixed cost. ... Brokers may or may not have an exclusive territory, but often do. Brokers may have exclusivity to an particular "class" of customers within a specified territory, such as military or government customers. Most brokers specialize in a particular area, such as frozen foods, groceries, dairy, even health foods, and nearly all successful brokers represent more than one or two manufacturers. 2, record 83, English, - foodstuff%20broker
