Période de libéralisation de la Tchécoslovaquie communiste. Ses artisans, qui comptaient parmi les hautes instances de l'État et du Parti communiste, sont notamment parvenus à rétablir la liberté de presse. Lorsqu'il est devenu évident que le Parti communiste entérinerait cette démarche et que la Tchécoslovaquie sortirait de l'orbite soviétique, les forces du Pacte de Varsovie ont envahi le pays en août 1968. Une dure normalisation du régime s’en est suivie.
