English

Subject field(s)
  • The Stars (Astronomy)
  • Astrophysics and Cosmography
DEF

The theoretical process by which an object approaching a black hole is progressively broken down into a long thin string of particles by increasing gravitational forces, especially the vast difference in gravitational strength at either end of the object.

CONT

NASA's event horizon postcard warns travelers about visiting a black hole with a nod to "spaghettification," also called the noodle effect. The closer an object gets to a black hole, the stronger its gravitational pull becomes.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Optics
CONT

Chromatic reflex action. - The end effect is similar to the photo reflex action, the influence of highly saturated (high chroma) colours, in a predominantly low chroma environment, attracts visual attention. This phenomenon is well understood and used consistently in the design and locating of directional signs and advertising, and should be exploited in office design to aid attention.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Optique
CONT
