Le moule est constitué d’un conteneur en acier doux où sont placés les noyaux limitant la forme des parties internes de la pièce, également en acier. Les noyaux et outillages réutilisables sont fabriqués à partir de nuances présentant une résistance au fluage à haute température adaptée à la précision dimensionnelle recherchée. On distingue en précontrainte deux procédés distincts : a-la pré-tension, ou précontrainte par fils adhérents. Elle consiste à tendre fortement, sur un banc de précontrainte, des torons de fils d’acier qui traversent le moule de la pièce à fabriquer. On coule ensuite la pièce dans ce moule; lorsque le durcissement du béton est suffisant, on décoffre et on sectionne les fils.
