Record 1, Textual support, English
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 DEF
A hoisting apparatus consisting of two or more poles, fastened together at the top with a pulley hung from the lashing, used for lifting heavy loads. 2, record 1, English, - shear%20legs
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The shears derrick is essentially a gin pole derrick, constructed in such a manner that only two guys are necessary. The "mast" is a V-shaped frame made of two poles, which may, in some cases, be connected by traverse bracing. ... This derrick is often used for the erection of heavy machinery which is lifted by means of hoisting tackles connected to the "mast" at the point of intersection of the poles. 9, record 1, English, - shear%20legs
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The shear legs or shears derrick has two poles lashed together at the top, from which the hoisting tackle is hung. Two guy ropes only are needed but the shears are rather less manoeuvrable (and therefore more stable) than the pole, which can be moved towards any of its guy ropes. 2, record 1, English, - shear%20legs
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The term "shears" and its synonyms is usually used in plural but may be singular or plural in construction. 10, record 1, English, - shear%20legs

3, record 1, French, - ch%C3%A8vre
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
4, record 1, French, - ch%C3%A8vre

Timken lubricant test. The Timken test determines the load at which a film of lubricant will fail and cause scoring. The test consists of a revolving test cup (race) that rubs on a stationary block. Speeds are infinitely variable, but usually run at a race speed of 800 rpm. Load is applied through a lever arrangement, at the end of which the necessary weights are gradually added automatically at a rate of 2.3 lb/sec. Refined Timken test machines, capable of infinitely variable loading from 0 to 1000 lb, measure friction, wear, and frictional temperature. Failure of lubricant is indicated by scoring of the test block. Tests of oils, greases, compounds, and solid lubricants can be made. [The results of such tests are reported variously in terms that relate to friction, seizure, stick-slip, wear, temperature, and load capacities under constant or different conditions]. 1, record 2, English, - load%20capacity
