The PPSR System records and reproduces information concerning consumer and business loans where goods and other personal property are used as collateral to secure loans. For example, a person buys a car and borrows money from a bank to pay for it. The borrower and the bank enter into an agreement giving the bank rights to the car if the borrower does not repay the loan. Le système RESM enregistre et reproduit des renseignements relatifs aux prêts consentis aux particuliers et aux entreprises pour lesquelles des biens mobiliers et d’autres propriétés personnelles sont utilisés comme garantie. Voici un exemple : une personne achète une voiture et emprunte de l'argent à la banque pour ce faire. Le prêteur, c'est-à-dire la banque, conclut une entente avec cette personne lui donnant des droits sur la voiture qui va être achetée si l'emprunteur ne règle pas les mensualités convenues.
