A schist in which the main constituent, chlorite, imparts a schistosity by parallel arrangement of its flakes. Quartz, epidote, magnetite, and garnet are accessories, the last two often as conspicuous porphyroblasts.

The volcano-sedimentary sequence, the main host to gold-bearing veins, consists of greywacke, chlorite schist, polymictic conglomerate and oxide facies iron formation.

A non-foliated rock is a metamorphic rock that does not display a lamellar texture or distinct light and dark banding common to foliated metamorphic rocks. Non-foliated rock includes quartzite, marble, and metabasalt. Non-foliated metamorphic rocks are most often derived from single mineral sedimentary rocks like limestone and quartz sandstone.
