ROCHE SEDIMENTAIRE CLASTIQUE [3 records]

Record 1 2012-03-02

English

Subject field(s)
  • Petrography
  • Erosion and Weathering (Geol.)
DEF

A sedimentary rock that is composed of fragments of preexisting rocks.

CONT

Sandstone is a clastic rock.

CONT

... dilution of phosphates by clastics was minimal ...

OBS

As a noun, "clastic" is usually in the plural form.

PHR

Sedimentary fragmental rock.

Key term(s)
  • clastics

Domaine(s)
  • Pétrographie
  • Érosion et corrosion (Géologie)
DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Petrography
DEF

Sandstone consisting chiefly of quartz grains cemented by quartz, the cement often having crystallographic continuity around each grain.

OBS

Skolnick (1965) believes that most sedimentary quartzites are compacted sandstones developed by pressure solution of quartz grains.

OBS

quartzitic sandstone: A term used by Krynine ... for a sandstone that contains 100% quartz grains cemented with silica. The term is essentially equivalent to "orthoquartzite."

OBS

"Quartzite" is a word used interchangeably for both metamorphic quartzite (known as metaquartzite) and sedimentary quartzite (known as orthoquartzite).

OBS

quartzite: The preferred name [is] orthoquartzite ...

OBS

qtze: ... abbreviation ... used in drilling reports.

OBS

orthoquartzite; orthoquartzitic sandstone; sedimentary quartzite: terms used at Natural Resources Canada - Earth Sciences Sector.

PHR

Feldspathic, micaceous, pyritic quartzite.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Pétrographie
DEF

Roche sédimentaire clastique, composée de grains de quartz intimement cimentés.

CONT

CONT

The Val d'Or-Malartic gold district ... consists of alternating belts of volcanic and Timiskaming-type clastic sedimentary rocks, adjacent to the extensive clastic sedimentary sequence of the Pontiac Subprovince to the south....

CONT

The erosion of these [passive continental margins] results in the rapid deposition of thick deposits of clastic sedimentary rocks known as turbidites ... These evaporites and turbidites are ideal environments for the formation of oil and gas deposits...
