Le secrétaire(ou bureau) «en pente» ou «en dos d’âne» [...] est peu à peu remplacé par le secrétaire(ou bureau) «à cylindre» [...]. Composé d’une table à écrire, de tiroirs ou de casiers sur lesquels se referme un rouleau demi-circulaire, d’abord à lamelles souples, puis rigide, le bureau à cylindre sera d’un usage courant sous Louis XVI et pendant une bonne partie du XIXe siècle.
