La région septale est composée des noyaux du septum, du septum lucidum et de l'aire septale. Les noyaux du septum sont divisés en deux groupes nucléaires : le groupe médial et le groupe latéral. Le groupe médial est constitué par le noyau septal médian et le noyau de la bandelette de Broca. Le septum lucidum ou septum pellucidum-est une fine membrane constituée de cellules gliales.
