A separate method called serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE) was described ... In this method, short sequence tags were isolated from the tissue, concatenated and cloned. The sequence of the clones allowed development of a profile for the gene expression. Quantitative data regarding the prevalence of an expressed gene was derived from the frequency that a given sequence was found. Furthermore, new transcripts which corresponded to novel tags could be identified. Therefore, SAGE should allow defining quantitative assessment of gene expression in tissues under normal and abnormal conditions. 4, record 1, English, - serial%20analysis%20of%20gene%20expression

Highly repetitive DNA takes its name from the very large number of copies of the basic reassociating sequence present. Generally this sequence is rather short. In one example, the fast component consists of a sequence only 340 bp long, present in 500,000 copies per genome. Because of the short length of the reassociating unit, sometimes this is also referred to as simple sequence DNA. 2, record 3, English, - highly%20repetitive%20DNA

2, record 6, French, - marqueur%20g%C3%A9nomique

Interferons are a family of naturally occurring small proteins that are produced and secreted by cells in response to viral infection. Alpha and beta interferons are classified type 1 interferons and include more than 25 different molecules. Consensus interferon (CIFN) is a novel, recombinant type 1 interferon containing 166 amino acids. CIFN was derived by scanning the sequences of natural alpha interferons and assigning the most frequently observed amino acid in each corresponding position. CIFN, when compared on an equal mass basis with interferon (IFN) alfa-2 and alpha-2b in in vitro assays, typically displays 5-10 tiems higher biological activity. 1, record 8, English, - Consensus%20Interferon
