Plusieurs espèces de félins, maintenant disparues, ont proliféré en Amérique du Nord durant la dernière ère glaciaire. On distingue parmi ceux-ci le chat des cavernes(Homotherium serum), le tigre à dents de sabre(Smilodon fatalis) et le lion d’Amérique(Panthera leo atrox).
