Angelman syndrome is a complex genetic disorder that primarily affects the nervous system. Characteristic features of this condition include delayed development, intellectual disability, severe speech impairment, and problems with movement and balance (ataxia). Most affected children also have recurrent seizures (epilepsy) and [a happy, excitable demeanor].

The Canadian Angelman Syndrome Society (CASS), founded in 1993, is dedicated to educating parents and professionals about Angelman syndrome by disseminating information and providing support for parents and caregivers of children with Angelman syndrome.

OBS

The mission of CASS is to provide support to individuals with Angelman syndrome, their families and caregivers through specific and personal educational experience and opportunity for social support with a view to mitigating stressors and challenges that families and caregivers experience daily. In doing so, CASS will contribute to the quality of life for persons with Angelman syndrome and their families and build acceptance and support of persons with Angelman syndrome.
