Compared with the other earth colors ... it has the most brilliant, clear, fiery, transparent undertone, and its red-brown top tone is least chalky in mixtures. Permanent.

Les terres de Sienne. La terre de Sienne naturelle est très riche en oxyde de fer et c'est surtout la présence d’un peu d’oxyde de manganèse qui la différencie de l'ocre jaune.(...) Si l'on soumet la terre de Sienne à la calcination, elle devient d’un beau marron profond : c'est la terre de Sienne brûlée ou calcinée.

Origine : oxydes de fer plus un peu de bioxyde de manganèse. Fixe et assez solide.
