1, record 56, Spanish, - palomilla

Cadelles are one of the largest insects to infest grain. They are shiny black in colour, about 8 to 9 millimetres in length, and easily recognized by their large mandibles with which they can gnaw through sacking and even wood. The larva is also easy to recognize, with its black head and two black prongs on the last segment. The larva also has dark spots on top of the dorsal section. The cadelle has one of the longest life cycles of the beetles. The females lay about 900 eggs. At 28 degrees C and a relative humidity of 70 to 80%, it takes about 80 days from egg to adult. When the average temperature drops to 23 degrees C, the larval stage lasts 13 months. Under colder conditions the life cycle may take three years. 2, record 57, English, - cadelle
